Alpha Baselayer Co. Press Release

I worked as Social Media Manager with Alpha Baselayer Co., a new local, technical base layer company for skiers, snowboarders, and really, winter-lovers. I wrote this press release in fall to announce the launch of their 2015 LookBook and online shop. The press release, along with Facebook Ads, Google Adwords, engagement on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter platforms, has interested the ski and snowboard community and garnered coverage from media outlets. I was thrilled to help these guys get up off the ground!

I can’t wait for more projects that will continue to inspire my love for skiing and helping others to get winter ready – and actually enjoy it!

Henderson Pipeline Newsletter

In my co-op internship with AltaGas LTD., I was given the opportunity to write the second issue in a series of monthly newsletters to landowners leading up to the construction of a pipeline project. I spoke with project managers to gather information, worked with the in-house graphic designer and went through rounds of editing with the executive team to ensure the newsletter was accurate, concise and written in a personable tone. Here is the final product:

Sharing World Wide Views

In a Co-op work term as Communications Coordinator for World Wide Views (WWViews) Canada on Biodiversity, I travelled to Copenhagen to meet the organizers and other coordinators for project management training. There, we were 80 individuals representing over 20 countries worldwide. The intercultural interaction helped me to better understand the unique biodiversity objectives and challenges around the globe. At this seminar I was interviewed by The Danish Board of Technology on my hopes and expectations for the upcoming WWViews citizen meetings.

WWViews is a global citizen participation project designed to provide policymakers with information about citizens’ views on relevant global issues – like biodiversity. On September 15th 2012, citizens from all over the world met in their countries to debate the same biodiversity themes and questions with their fellow countrymen. At the end of the day it was possible to compare the results from all participating countries and in October 2012 the results were presented at the United Nations Biodiversity conference, COP11 in India.

Being a Co-op Student

I joined the University of Calgary’s Arts Co-operatve Education Program in my second year of Communications Studies, a tired and weary student wondering what “this” is all for. What a delight it is to report that this program helped turn my frown upside down!

I praise Arts degrees for their breadth and flexibility. Through the resources and council of the Arts Co-op Team, I gained invaluable work experience in Alberta’s oil and gas industry, in academia, and in a non-profit organization. The program helped me to weave 18 months of practical-skill-acquiring with the theory and analysis required of my degree. For me, this proved a successful combination. The work terms allowed me to breathe from under all those books and engage in real-time application of my skills. After interacting in a work environment, expanding my professional network, and earning some money, I could return to my studies – refreshed and ready.
